I'm raising the $95,290 I need to attend Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism this August, for the third consecutive year.
Last year, I landed in New York with a weeks worth of accommodation and $520 to my name. In 42 days I raised $69,290 of the $89,290 to obtain this Masters of Science in Journalism.
It makes no sense that the stories told about those around me, in the train, at work, at the coffee store or the petrol station, struggle to resonate with those around me. A shift towards writers from within communities creating an organic narrative, to ensure that misrepresented and marginalized peoples inform a version of events that can be relevant to a diverse population.
Stories connect us and build a genuine understanding of the world. They are the foundation for building ethical and sustainable bridges for socio-economic gaps. Genuine insight into a culture and ethnicity, from the perspective of one of it's members can undermine stereotypes and allow populations to be complex.

My overarching goal is to create a news wire with a network of offices in every African state.
I want the journalists, executives and production crew to be a mix of Africans who have become the best in the industry while out in the world, as well as the exceptional media practitioners that work from within the continent.
